What is Transformational Coaching? Transformational Coaching has gained extensive ground in both academic and coaching worlds. I foster ‘transformational’ coaching techniques due to its empowering nature for clients. Transformation Coaching is about achieving results through encouraging clients to look at their presenting issue, for example, this could relate to lack of confidence stopping you from applying for a job promotion, asserting yourself in a relationship, anxiety with public speaking or dealing with change. Coaching begins by exploring where you are now, where you want to be and what you need to do to get there. It’s basically about moving away from a way of being that no longer serves you well. This technique encourages a person to distinguish between what they are doing and saying and how this aligns to their desired outcome. Where disparity exists, confusion, conflict, indecision and resistance to change may be present. Consequently, this creates barriers and self-limiting beliefs that hold you back and prevent you from reaching your full potential. My job is to support you on a personal journey of self-exploration and rediscovery to change your way of being, thus leading you to a new and positive existence that brings with it feelings of happiness, fulfilment, satisfaction and achievement.
Coaching differs from other traditional therapies that rely on imparting knowledge and giving prescriptive advice. The client is encouraged to take responsibility and be accountable for what occurs in their life. The client is resourceful and can often find their own solutions. Sessions revolve to desired outcomes and achieving tangible results. Coaching aims to create profound ‘light-bulb’ or ‘a-ha’ learning moments that create new perspectives, a sense of opportunity and the feeling of optimism, consequently changing a client’s way of being. The learning is (put simply) a bit like the difference between learning to swim by getting in a pool and practicing rather than being taught to swim just by watching video or being told what to do.
It’s a whole-person approach, where new habits and behaviours are formed which can be transferred in to others aspect of one’s life, for example family, friends, partners and work. The client transforms their perspective, shifting their paradigm to include more, which allows an expanded repertoire of possibilities to exist in various aspects of their life.
My coaching is not just about motivation and encouragement as this needs continuous reinforcement. It is about equipping individuals with behaviours, beliefs and values that align to their way of wanting to be. The learning is far more about inspiration, thus lighting a fire that doesn’t go out. Where motivation is on the whole intrinsic, motivation is unstoppable.
